Choosing a facial skin care product

The general classification of facial care products is based on the following:

  • Gender (so there are facial care products for men and there are facial care products for women)
  • Skin type (facial care products for oily skin, facial care products for dry skin, facial care products for normal skin and facial care products for sensitive skin, see banner below)
  • Age (facial care products for old and facial care products for young people)
  • Skin condition (i.e. facial care products for the treatment of various skin conditions such as eczema, acne, etc.)

That is your starting point for choosing a facial care product that suits you. A good way to start is to determine your skin type first. Also note that skin type changes with age, so the facial skin product that suits you today may not always suit you, and so you should constantly evaluate the effectiveness of your facial skin care product.

Facial care products are available in different forms i.e. creams, lotions, gels, masks etc. and many people try to play one against the other in their discussion of which form is best. However, one cannot really rate one form as better than another. Whatever suits you (and whatever you feel comfortable with) is really the best form of facial care product for you.

However, it’s important to note that these products work differently for different people. So it is best to try the facial care product on a small area of skin (eg ear lobes) before actually using it.

Another important consideration is the condition of your skin. If you have a skin condition, it is best to seek the advice of a dermatologist before actually making your choice and using a facial care product.

Once you have selected the facial care product for yourself, you should also make sure that you are using the facial care product correctly i.e. follow the correct application procedures, use the correct amount and make the facial product part of your skincare routine.
